Insights from Developing Unify

At Deutsche Telekom AG we developed a framework called Unify to dramatically simplify our process of pushing out applications for a wide array of platforms. This talk is about our insights during development and might be interesting for developers who need to deliver applications for more platforms than just Android.We have a strong focus on user experience. Our goal is to reach the same user satisfaction as apps built using e.g. Cocoa Touch. We do not support a wide array of legacy systems but try very hard to be compelling on modern ones like iPhone OS and Android. In our opinion it is more important to focus on the future - not on the past.Unify builds on a strong foundation. It was driven by the vision to bring professional JavaScript development to the mobile application sphere. It is pretty interesting to find the right mixture between performance and developer comfort. We quickly found out that we are not able to offer the same level of convenience for app developers as brought to you by modern desktop frameworks like ExtJS, qooxdoo, Bindows, etc. but we still wanted to offer more richness than iUI, JQTouch or MooTouch.
