We started ProAndroidDev in April 2017 aiming to consolidate great Android Dev blog posts in one place. Time flies and now 2 years later, we’re at 28K followers on Medium, 100+ authors, and 10+ media partners. We’re very proud to be trusted by experienced authors and Google Developer Experts on Android as well!
This scale is introducing several open questions:
- Some days we’re receiving 5+ publish post requests. We need to allocate significant time to read and comment on them, and it’s not easy considering that we’re all volunteers.
- Rockstar authors are publishing their posts at ProAndroidDev. We think it is worth rewarding the best posts and finding ways to support the author’s desire to be published at ProAndroidDev.
- Our project creates a place for everyone to learn and communicate online, but we feel that comment threads will be greatly enhanced by meeting people in the real world and providing additional ways to connect.
- ProAndroidDev posts are currently hosted on Medium.com platform, we’d like to scale it up and be present at other platforms as well.
Droidcon Global has been connecting Android Developers all around the world for 11 years through their droidcon events in over 20 countries worldwide. Each droidcon is first and foremost a community-driven event and allows local developer communities to have access to the best in Android. Recently we began speaking with the droidcon HQ team about their Global Community Platform (www.droidcon.com) initiative to virtually connect Android developers and aggregate the most relevant content in one place and allowing them to make meaningful virtual connections.
As many of you know, ProAndroidDev and droidcon have worked together since the very beginning to share information about upcoming droidcon events. Moreover, our editorial team is actively involved in program committees and we speak regularly at numerous droidcon events. One day we realized that the missions of both projects sounded very similar, and we felt like we could unlock untapped potential by joining our efforts.
Today we’re happy to announce that ProAndroidDev will officially become part of the droidcon Global team. The teams at ProAndroidDev and droidcon share a common vision and are committed to:
- Keeping ProAndroidDev values and trajectory stay the same. ProAndroidDev will remain free and open to every Android professional.
- Making sure the ProAndroidDev Editorial team stays and providing additional resources to take it to the next level.
- Providing authors more reach into global markets to help Android developers raise the bar worldwide (In fact you can already see a few ProAndroidDev blog posts at droidcon.com).
- Introduce meaningful perks and rewards to ProAndroidDev authors.
- …and more!
We’ll be sure to keep you informed of our progress and look forward to your feedback. It will take some time to align our teams, and we are excited to get started. We are looking forward to build great things!!
Cheers,
